August TBR and MBR

The journey so far

July has been an interesting mixed bag month, where I was able to progress on a few things, for example by completing the Covenant of Steel by Anthony Ryan; the second half of the month was more disappointing.

The plan for August is to focus on a few fantasy stories (two drivers, what is making me love fantasy and information I need to refresh to be able to dive into new series in the next weeks).

August TBR

Fantasy

I will be sharp focused this month on three series: The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, with the first two books in the series, The Eye Of the World and The Great Hunt.

I will also continue loving The Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky, with Salute the Dark and, potentially, The Scarab Path.

Last but not least on this TBR list we have Rook & Rose by M.A. Carrick; we need to continue with The Liar’s Knot and Labyrinth’s Heart (as this will be the new release of the year).

August MBR

Historical Fiction

Now, this is where I want to focus my month on! And this is where the list is an MBR, as there are way too many choices and too little time.

I will continue with The Civil War Trilogy by Jeff Shaara, with The Killer Angels and The Last Full Measure.

I want then to dive into too many things; I will most likely read something from Matthew Harffy (as I truly enjoyed what he made so far), probably starting with his latest series, A Time for Swords (and the homonymous title).

I also want to explore a few different times and places in history; I would love to start with Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian (and I am one of those people who did not watch the movie), starting the Aubrey & Maturin series, and yet a naval story just hits the right spot for me right now!

I am also intrigued by The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson, starting with Quicksilver. A story of the 17th century focusing on knowledge development.

In fact, there are a million other books that might be fascinating and I certainly want to add a few women writing historical fiction, starting from Hilary Mantel; I need to invest my time in Wolf Hall, the book that started the series dedicated to Thomas Cromwell.

Two more choices: Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry; one of the most important western historical fiction books and I am looking forward to exploring these vibes!

And, to spend a bit of time in a mythological past, let’s also go for Ariadne by Jennifer Saint!

Manga

I also want to return to the world of Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama. It has been a while since I read the first five volumes so it would be nice to have a few hours in the month dedicated to this wonderful world and it’s magic system, with enemies lurking in the background!

Outro

I am quite excited about this month; it is an unusual month for me, in terms of focus. This month will also allow me to focus on the blog and I cannot wait to go down this road!

What are your plans for August? Do you plan to read exciting series or books? Any suggestions for historical fiction that I should include in this list?

Let me (and others!) know in the comments below!
