Empire of the Wolf by Richard Swan
This is another exciting story that is already in my TBR list, starting in December 2023!
Richard Swan
Richard Swan, a lawyer by training, is a prolific fantasy and sci-fi author.
Recently, he took the fantasy world by storm with a trilogy called Empire of the Wolf, with The Justice of Kings, The Tyranny of Faith and The Trials of Empire (at the date of publishing this post, the third book is not published yet).
This series would be the first books by this author for me and I am looking forward to understanding if he will sky rocket to the list of authors I want to read when books are published!
Empire of the Wolf
The fantasy world loved The Justice of Kings when it first came out in early 2022; it contains traditional fantasy elements, such as magic and intrigue but it adds an additional element of mystery.
In fact, if you have read the Greatcoats, there is a minimum of overlap: the protagonists of Empire of the Wolf are representatives of the king (and this is really where the parallel ends). The representatives of the Order of Justice are detectives, judges and executioners. And they are the last line of defense against rebellion.
The story is told from Helena Sedanka’s perspective; she is orphan and protege of Sir Konrad Vonvalt, the most feared Justice. Apparently, they uncover a mystery, following the murder of an aristocrat, that might change the course of the Empire.
Why did I wait so long to read this series?
I confess I have been avoiding reading this story because there was too much buzz around this book for a long time; this means that the book was a success. Yet, I tend to have ad odd taste in books and what is widely liked might not suit me so well. So I have been avoiding this series for a while.
Until I found a buddy read on Fantasy Buddy Reads starting in December 2023 (getting ready for the release of The Trial of Empire early 2024). So I have decided to bow to the reading peers pressure and get onto this adventure.
Why is the series appealing to me?
Now, these are not the only reasons I want to experience this trilogy. The blurb of the story appeals to me; there is political intrigue and there are a few people who need to fight for the fate of the world. A mystery and high stakes are certainly in my wheel house and I cannot wait to be able to see the story unfold in front of my eyes.
I am also curious to see if Richard Swan is one of those authors who can really write female characters. I think there is really only one male fantasy author who is remarkable in this field and that is Mark Lawrence. I am curious to see if this will be the case also for Richard Swan!
Have you read this series? If not, do you want to join Fantasy Buddy Reads (on Goodreads) so we can experience this story together! If you did, comment down below as to why people should be reading it, with a nice wolf emoji!
