February TBR and MBR
Intro
January has been a wonderful reading month for me.
One truly important thing is that I was able to balance the fantasy authors I read and have been pretty balanced with my reading: I was able to have 6 male authors and 5 women in fantasy!
The other exciting thing is that I began many series; and with that comes the challenge of keeping good track of my progress. The most important thing that I need to do is making progress, one step at a time!
What open series do I have?
The expanse by James S.A. Corey and I have a monthly plan for the series; let’s see if this is sustainable or if I will feel compelled to continue with the series.
Empire of the wolf by Richard Swan with the last book in the series, The Trials of Empire. I am looking forward to take that step and feel like I have completed some of the open items.
Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown; this is an interesting one. I made a mistake thinking that the last book in the saga will be released in 2024 and it seems that on Goodreads Red God is expected (for publication) in 2025. So I will compete the first three books and then decide whether I want to push myself further or push the rest to 2025.
Chronicles of the Cheysuli by Jennifer Roberson is an older fantasy story (and some of the topics of book one were actually quite unsettling); on the positive, it is familiar fantasy (with an interesting plot twist on the magic system) and it flows quite quickly.
The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb: this is my master series of the year and I am genuinely loving everything about this re-reading journey (so far). The feelings are real!
The chronicles of the bitch queen by K.S. Villoso - I am looking forward to getting a few pages ahead in this journey!
February TBR
So what do I expect from February? Well, I have two main goals: the first is to keep my balance between male and female fantasy authors. The second is to feel like I made progress in my series!
Historical fiction
This is the time when Greek and Roman history dominate my historical fiction TBR! Here we’re going to explore the world of Santiago Posteguillo and I will start with the duology Julia Domna, with the first book called Yo, Julia. I am also excited to be reading in Spanish again!
Sci-Fi
Well there are two books in my TBR here: on one side we will continue our journey through The Expanse series (and this is where Mars should come into play too!); on the other hand we have Golden Son, book two in the Red Rising saga!
Fantasy
This list contains a few cool titles!
First and foremost, Royal Assassin (and potentially Assassin’s Quest!) by Robin Hobb.
The other title that gets me going - but not before the 6th of February - is The Trial of Empire by Richard Swan, the title and book that ends the Empire of the Wolf trilogy!
Last but not least in this list I have The Lions of Al-Rassad by Gavriel Guy Kay!
February MBR
As you noticed, my TBR is quite unbalanced when it comes to male and female authors, so my main focus will be to add women in fantasy to my reading schedule!
First and foremost, I have the Chronicles of the Cheysuli to continue and the next book in the series is Legacy of the Word.
I have The Falcon of Ikessar by K.S. Villoso to continue and I am looking forward to understanding what comes next there.
Last but not least, I have another two authors on the table: the first is romantasy (and if I do not read if in February, when would it be more appropriate) with From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout.
I also have another series that I have been itching to read: the Reborn Empire by Davin Madson. This is a four-book series, starting with We ride the storm. I really want to know what this series has to offer and get hyped there!
What are your plans for February? Do you have any highly anticipated books you are finally getting to?
