Secret Invasion ep.3 - reaction

Episode 3 reaction!

Episode three feels pivotal to the story (after all, this is half way through the series) and it feels a very personal insight in a few relationships. Plus, we get a clear view of the next big thing, Super Skrulls!

The key interactions of this episode

Fury and Talos are still pivotal. Secret invasion is their story, they are struggling through their personal and professional issues and limitations. And, to some extent, part of the challenges they experience are due to their own interdependence.

Fury and Varra

We get an insight into how Fury and Varra interact. There is one of the best Fury lines of the episode right in this interaction (Varra asks him: “Any plans for the downtime?” and Nick: “Well you know I never care for golf, so… I’m thinking I may take up revenge”.)

Now, this interaction allows us to see how the people around Fury suffered, both when he disappeared in the Blip and then when he did not return himself from the Blip. Varra is really hurt and tells him very openly that this is what drove her to become an ally of Gravik.

Now, here there is another interesting thing: to me, Varra left her phone in Nick’s vicinity, unattended. She knows that he is a spy and he will help himself to it. But is this because she is secretly worried about the path that Gravik took or is this to lure Nick into a trap? I don’t know just yet!

Fury and Talos; Talos and Fury

As said, they are the key characters of this series and we are getting to a tipping point in their professional and personal relationship. This is the episode that allows them to be stronger together; they both know they depend on each other, both professionally but also personally. They complement each other so well: a naive believer in integration and a man hardened by his personal and professional life!

Here I need to sprinkle one more thought: Sonja is quite secondary in this episode; with that said, Olivia Coleman is just outstanding, it does not matter if she has 1 minute of 25 minutes of screen, she is simply magnetic.

Talos and Gravik

Their parley is intense. Gravik has a strong position about head of armies that are not close to the events on the field while he is and wants to be different from them (he pointed the finger at Churchill for quite a while in this interaction).

Talos is pretty mellow for most of the conversation until Gravik threatens G’iah. Not once but twice (and this is where we find out that Gravik is a super skrull already!)

What is going to happen next?

Super skulls are a thing, and we see some of it in action (and there is more coming, as we have seen more in the trailers).

Plus, let’s be honest: do we truly believe that G’iah truly died? I suspect someone has been meddling with the super skull serum and is now capable of fighting neck to neck against Gravik!

Furthermore, didn’t we get a clear tip that there is an avenger who has been a Skull for a while? The plot thickens!
