Beloved fantasy author continues an incredible and brutal adventure, with the Caerith being more important in the story, and the slow understanding of what is really going on creeping in the readers’ minds!

A few highlights

  • Summary of The Pariah is done cleverly and it is a pretty good summary too

  • Political intrigue with king Tomas being worried about Evadine’s success and sets her up for increasingly difficult challenges

    • Alwyn is a key for her success

      • he keeps being incredibly cunning, skilled at determining how to carry out war

      • he starts getting into challenging discussions with his long-time friends, such as Wilhum

    • Evadine’s develop is quite interesting too, she is working through her blessing and she believes she is working to better the work

      • she still has visions (that become reality) and she is considered The Martyr

    • I enjoyed Princess Leaner and her role in this story - a quite interesting character, sprinkling challenges and intelligence all over the story

    • And my favorite character of everyone is Lilat, the most fearless and practical woman of the entire series

  • Caerith, their way of living and their habits they have are wonderful

    • Eithlisch is an strong character, and he does not get along with Alwyn yet their destinies are still connected and he helps Alwyn through his journey

Tropes/themes that work for me

  • Found family is still the main driver of this story

  • Magic is a core elements of the story and it is wonderful to get to know a new part of the world and a different people with different skills and abilities and way of living

  • City siege holds our attention for a while, while following the story of those trapped inside

  • This is another one point of view story, following The Martyr

  • I liked Lochlain and what he represented and I would like to read a prequel about his story and how he became the man he is
