Episode 4: Mages, Wizards and Witches
This episode is quite close to my heart, focusing on a particularly interesting facet of fantasy: mages, wizards and witches.
The selection is based on characters that fit this description; it does not include druids, shamans, necromancers or description of magic systems (all will the their own episode!).
The selection starts with the classics: Gandalf from The Lords of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and there is so much value in this character, both as a mage and as a mentor.
We continue with Gardens of the Moon, book one in the Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Steven Erikson.
We keep going with one of my favorite urban fantasy stories of all times, with the Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron, and the follow-up series, DFZ.
We then also dive into the First Law World by Joe Abercrombie where we have one of the scarier mages of this list - and ever really: Bayaz.
Last but not least in this episode, we will briefly talk about an iconic witch, the Scarlet Witch, in both its comics appearance and the marvel cinematic universe. In particular, the story that I would recommend the most - although the story is not centered around her, it provides a clear view of her abilities, House of M.
I hope you will enjoy the episode and, hopefully, you have new books for your TBR!
