July MBR

Reflection on June and prospects for July

July is a month of adventure, a month I can spend working on a few interesting projects for the blog and for myself. While I am not sure I will be able to read as much as in April or May, I want to make sure I have enough books on my list to pick from!

June did not go as expected, as I did not read as much fantasy as I have done the rest of the year. In fairness to. myself, I have a month (or two) during which my attention is diverted from reading. And I think I am living exactly one of those moments this month; there are a few factors coming into the equation, from Diablo IV, to tv shows and my attention being focused on One Piece.

Intentions for July

So July there are a few things going, including pushing my ability to complete a few series and/or making progress on longer series!

Reading list!

Continuing making progress!

The Covenant of Steel by Anthony Ryan will complete the trilogy this month so I have both The Martyr and The Traitor this month to entertain me. Both new reads for me. And this will get me with one series completed this month.

I will the keep pushing my progress on The War Eternal by Rob J. Hayes, with From Cold Ashes Risen and, potentially, Sins of the Mother.

I want to complete Mistborn era 2 by Brandon Sanderson, with The Lost Metal. This will also be another series completed. And then, one of the books that has me excited is Secret Project #3. Actually, this will probably be the first book in the month! Both are progress in The Cosmere!

I also want to introduce a few different books in the series, starting from The City & the City by China Miéville (a stand alone novel) and continuing with Alchemical Journeys, with Middlegame and Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire (and this time around I am loving October Days from the same author)

Also, I need resume my journey through the Rook & Rose series by M. A. Carrick. I shared already why I love this series and I cannot wait to return to it with The Mask of Mirrors and, if possible, The liar’s knot. August will see this last book released!

It is also key to be able to continue reading The Shadows of the Apt with Blood of the Mantis, and potentially, Salute the Dark by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

Other ideas to pursue!

I also want to include a few different books in the process: (i) Gods and Generals (I truly want to read more about the American civil war) by Jeff Shaara; (ii) Scarlet by Genevieve Cogman (I loved her The Invisible Library series, although I have not completed it yet; I am not so much into vampire stories but let’s see if Genevieve Cogman can make me interested in these creatures), (iii) The book that wouldn’t burn by Mark Lawrence, (iv) Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey (and yes, this starts a huge series but I cannot wait to start this series!) (v) The Squire by Duncan M. Hamilton and (vi) Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.

Manga time!

One Piece by Eiichiro Oda is at the front and centre of what I am currently reading in the manga space! I want to finish East Blue and maybe even complete Baroque Works!

I might also decide to resume reading (and restart!) My Hero Academia by Kōhei Horikoshi; or return to fantasy why Black Clover by Yūki Tabata. There are also a few other interesting choices, from Fairy tail by Hiro Mashima (a completed series) or even Soul Eater by Atsushi Ohkubo (another completed series).
