June MBR
We are a few days into the month of June and I am ready to share what books will be part of the might be read list! I am struggling more and more to keep myself accountable to the books that I am currently reading. I have something that seems to be a plan; and that helps me making progress on the topics and the content that I want.
And then there are four new release in May that are wonderful and throw a wrench into my process! The only positive is that the books, even on kindle, are so expensive that I will wait for some of them for a while.
With that long introduction, here are the books that I have selected to be on my list!
Let’s resume my reading journey through The Covenant of Steel by Anthony Ryan, and I plan to read both published book (as of today): The Pariah and The Martyr. In fact, by the time you are reading this, I have finish my re-read of The Pariah - another 4.5 stars read for me - and I will continue the adventures of Alwyn Scribe in a few weeks!
I also plan to continue with my adventure through The War Eternal by Rob J. Hayes, with From Cold Ashes Risen. I have not loved a main character so much in a very long time; and loved because she is relatable. Eska feels like a version of myself if I allowed certain impulses to win. I just love how unapologetic she is and how she will do all that it takes to win.
I also opened for finishing the Mistborn era two books by Brandon Sanderson, with The bands of mourning and The lost metal. These books are quite “simple” to digest and I am looking forward to seeing how Harmony will stack the odds in Wax’s and Wayne’s favor!
The Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky keeps making me fall in love with the story, with the third book in the series, Blood of the Mantis. While I do not remember all the details, I am looking forward to seeing how Felise and Tisamon
Ursula K. Le Guin will continue to keep me company, with books three and four of Earthsea, The farthest shore and Tehanu.
I want to return to the stories told by Mark Lawrence and I have the perfect book for that, with the latest and new release: The Book That Wouldn’t Burn. And I have a beautiful edition I bought through The Broken Binding and I cannot wait to showcase it (mostly online to avoid damaging it!). And this is one of the books that is throwing a wrench into my wheels. With that said, this book has already a 4.3 stars review on Goodreads and I cannot wait to start!
I will also continue (and finish) my journey through Under the Northern Sky series. with The Cuckoo by Leo Carew. I am still of the opinion that the first book was stronger than the second (mostly because the second did not need to meander around as much as it did, in my opinion) yet the ending of book 2 was outstanding so my instinct is to put the books on the same level at the end. And so, I want to see where we will land with the last book in the series! And yes, this series lives up to the political fantasy expectation; it has a stronger military component in the second book (without detracting from how political these stories are).
And in the spirit of finishing series, I will also include Den of Wolves by Juliet Marillier, book three in the Blackthorn & Grim series. It has been a while since I came back to this world - partially because I struggled through my way in book two. With that said, I loved this final book in the series and I loved how it came full circle in the series. By the time this post goes live, I have already finished this book and series!
Last but not least, I will also start a new series this month; I will pick The Last Shadow Knight by Michael Webb, a book that start The Shadow Knights Trilogy. The premise is quite interesting, a young boy having to fend for himself and getting to know the “last survivor of a secret organisation called the Shadow Knights.” Blurbs like this just catch my undivided attention and I am looking forward to going through this list!
