October reading plans
Themes - a new approach to my reading life?
The need to read based on themes is a new thing for me; it is also pressing me to make reading and entertainment choices based on these themes. I found most of them really sexy, appealing, making me itching to read more and faster!
And there is another reason why I want to explore these themes: at the very least, I will be able to have curated reading lists - and I get to share them!
In other words, if you have suggestions for each of them, feel free to share them!
Intro
So I want to explore this journey, and we have a first month that was a success. My adventure started with a low key September, which was Tolkien inspired. While Rings of Power was occupying my time on the small screen, I was taking a reading stroll down The Lord of the Rings (and we still need to finish The Return of the King but we are very close!). A very slow one, interjected by a million different interests too; I finished re-reading Oathbringer, I listened to the Atlee Pine series, I have been dabbling in other series too.
It would be interesting to commit harder to the themes, so let’s test our resolution in October!
October ideas!
October is dedicated to Vikings and there is one reason that inspired that: John Gwynne’s final book in the Bloodsworn saga. And next to that, we need to add a few more books to make this a rewarding Viking experience (and one of them is an entire stroke of luck and I will take it!).
The vast majority belongs to the fantasy category while one series is historical fiction!
The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne and that means, for me specifically, reading The Hunger of the Gods and The Fury of the Gods (published at the end of the month);
The Hanged God trilogy by Thilde Kold Holdt and I don’t know much about it other than it’s a story written by a woman in fantasy, in a Viking inspired fantasy setting. And it’s a completed fantasy series (and I am hoping to find a new author I will follow blindly!);
Anthony Ryan’s latest series, Age of Wrath, which kicks off with A Tide of Black Steel which is also set in a world inspired by a Viking setting! And this a happy coincidence, as I get to read one of my all-time favorite authors, and a few days after the book was published!
My historical fiction is inspired by Vikings. And Lancelot. I really enjoyed Kristian Giles’ work on Lancelot; hence I want to explore more of his work with the Rise of Sigurd trilogy!
And I still have a few books on my TBR, which are not closely connected to the theme but they are a need to read: Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson (again, trying to be ready for Wind and Truth later this year) and crime stories.
I love great crime stories and great protagonists: we have experienced Bosch (and Ballard), the Grey Man, Reacher and many others. This October we will be going down the rabbit hole of Dave Robicheaux by James Lee Burke and in an unusual location for me, New Orleans. So we’ll see where this new adventure takes me too!
I am pretty excited about these options and ideally plenty of books read in this month!
